Toronto IMAX
Seeing a movie at an Imax theatre practically puts you right inside the show. The screens of Imax reach up to eight stories high, and have 12,000 watt, wrap-around digital sound. Because of the intensity of the sound and picture, viewers are now allowed to experience movies like they never have before.
Imax movies for the most part are filmed on 70mm film, the largest format of film in the world. One would think that this in turn would make for a huge camera, but Imax cameras are versatile and relatively light, making them easy to take anywhere, from the deepest depths of the ocean to outer space. And with film that large, it is able to capture astoundingly crisp, clear and intense images that are of the highest quality when projected on screen. Each Imax theatre is equipped with a killer sound system with speaker virtually surrounding the audience. Not only that, but the actual movie screen is perforated with tiny holes to allow the sound to flow through to the audience's ears.
With all this technology, which is Canadian designed, it is no wonder that the actual movies are breathtaking and action-packed. Many of the films shown are educational, and take the viewer from a trip into space, to swimming with sharks, to coming face to face with a tiger or elephant. Imax has also begun filming and showing concerts of some of the world's biggest acts, putting the viewer in priceless front-row seats.
If you're in a city where an Imax theatre is located, be sure to check into the schedule and go see a show: guaranteed you wont regret it, and chances are you'll be back to see another!
