Toronto International Film Festival
The Toronto International Film Festival is held every year in the first week of September, and lasts ten days. This star-studded event draws nearly as many celebrities to the Toronto area as the Cannes Festival does to France. Over 250 films are shown here from over 70 countries. Tickets go very fast, but if you know you will be in Toronto during this week it is well worth attempting to book yourself into a few screenings.
Many of the films shown are independent, but don't let this fool you into thinking they are low quality: these are the best of the best, and tend to be extremely well written and gorgeously filmed. Not only that, but you can expect to see a lot of big names starring in and directing these films, as many actors, actresses and directors like to occasionally step away from the big money and put their time and effort into a pet project that they feel strongly about!
